You may have checked out the launch blog and video from Rudolf Hois on the key innovations of SAP S/4HANA 1610, as well as the post from Bert Schulze on the enhanced procurement solution and the advanced ATP in S/4HANA 1610. In another post, Thomas Reiss has shared some insights on the new user experience look and feel in this new product.
Today, I’d like to shed some light on 2 important topics that are now integrated in S/4HANA:

  • Warehouse management
  • Quality management

Warehouse management.

Here it is all about inventory accuracy, inventory location, utilization of the space, and optimization of the picking.

SAP offers two warehouse management systems (WMS) to support this: the first one, SAP WM application, was first introduced as a submodule of the Materials Management application within SAP R/3. The second is SAP EWM, developed as a component of SAP Supply Chain Management. SAP EWM is similar to SAP WM functionality, but with more flexibility in building objects like warehouse structure, picking, put away, and more.

With SAP S/4HANA 1610, we are introducing Extended Warehouse Management integrated into the S/4HANA core. This is one more deployment option, and not a replacement of the decentralized EWM, that definitely is and will be a valid option.

Check this video we have prepared for you to learn more about it:

As manufacturers need to shift from mass production into mass personalization, this brings many challenges from a quality perspective as well. With SAP S/4HANA 1610, QM is coming integrated in the core of the application, supporting all processes in quality engineering and quality improvement.

Throughout SAP S/4HANA, quality management data and processes have been streamlined and integrated. And of course, we have end-users like quality manager or quality inspector in mind when we built new applications. Those apps increase the usability for the end users, and the efficiency of the overall processes.

You will find more details on quality management in the video above starting at 3:55’.
